notes

i feel like i will be reading these announcements for many years to come due to a few factors

  1. the brain is incredibly complex and many piece of knowledge need to be assembled
  2. mice research continues to not translate well for human research
  3. alzheimer research has had a few scandals in the last decade

my main take away is that sleep continues to deliver hidden and non hidden benefits

summary

New insights into the brain's waste-removal system could one day help researchers better understand and prevent many brain disorders. The papers, all published in the journal Nature, suggest that during sleep, slow electrical waves push the fluid around cells from deep in the brain to its surface. There, a sophisticated interface allows the waste products in that fluid to be absorbed into the bloodstream, which takes them to the liver and kidneys to be removed from the body.
