Emergency Powers Are About to Be Bent Beyond Recognition

Emergency Powers Are About to Be Bent Beyond Recognition

notes

it may seem we have a leaky set of archaic laws open to a lot of interpretation, circumstance and abuse.

yet, i think bullet proofing democracy is likely unachievable and instead we are dealing with a power imbalance rooted in misinformation supported by the technologies of the day, lack of investment in public owned initiatives and a concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few.

while i hope the checks and balances we still do have help curb the reshaping of america in the next 4 years, it's not a great bet.

what i do think is hopeful is ideas around reversing citizen's united, reforming the ballot to support ranked or star voting and finding common support for a social safety net that is not tied to corporate employment.
