the debate around why humans have a disconnect between what habits they want vs what habits they actually exhibit span so many different spectrums as to be a confusing mess.
there are entire books on willpower and how to increase it and this article kicks off a premise that "will power is hopeless".
in some ways, every approach to breaking bad habits and forming good habits have a grain of truth buried down inside. and yet, like advice on diets and weight loss, the answer likely needs to be personalized to the individual, their community, and their environment.
this article does present a reasonable approach that may work for some: figure out the root of your bad habit and replace it.
yet, i think the root of bad habits can sometimes be core to our identities, out of our control or just hard to identify.
