summary
Essun continues her desperate search for her daughter, Nassun, who has been taken by her father after he murdered their son. Nassun, meanwhile, is being brutally trained to control her burgeoning orogenic powers at a hidden Fulcrum community. As the world continues to be ravaged by apocalyptic 'Seasons,' the obelisks that once suppressed the earth's magic begin to awaken, offering a possible path to salvation or perhaps an even greater threat. Mother and daughter must each grapple with their own burgeoning powers and the choices they make in a world on the brink of total annihilation.
