In a future society where books are banned and “fireman” burn any that are found, Guy Montag is one such "fireman". But when he meets his new neighbor, Clarisse, who is proud of the fact that she doesn't watch television and enjoys long walks, Montag begins to question the meaning of life. His curiosity is piqued when Clarisse asks him if he is happy, a question that leaves him stunned and worried. As he develops rebellious thoughts, Montag begins to steal books from the homes they are burning. With the help of a retired English professor named Faber, Montag discovers the power and significance of literature, eventually running from a government out to destroy him. Fahrenheit 451 is a warning against the dangers of censorship, conformity, and unfettered technology, a cautionary tale that is more poignant today than ever before.
