summary

In a collectivist society where individualism is forbidden and personal pronouns are replaced with the collective "we," Equality 7-2521 dares to be different. He has a thirst for knowledge, yearns for freedom, and is inspired by love. He discovers an abandoned tunnel from the Unmentionable Times and finds forbidden relics and passages that ignite his curiosity and individuality. He meets Liberty 5-3000 and together they uncover the corruption in their society and the true meaning of individuality, freedom and self-expression. With powerful and poetic prose, Ayn Rand's novella "Anthem" serves as a warning of what happens when individual freedoms are sacrificed for the false security of a "we" collective.
